Félix was diagnosed at a young age with a rare form of cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma. He received a life-saving operation from SickKids Hospital in Toronto and was able to have another year filled with love. Sadly, his cancer later relapsed, and he passed away in June 2022 at 23 months old.
Paul and Julie wanted to find a way to honour Félix’s memory as well as help other children with cancer. Félix adored his hockey stick and would play all day if he could. One night while gathered with friends, the idea of a ball hockey tournament was brought up. Everyone thought it was the perfect way to honour him and they began planning for an annual event. They knew they wanted the proceeds to go towards CancerCare Manitoba to further research and to improve treatments for pediatric cancer.
By raising funds, their hope is to improve the lives and outcomes of children affected by cancer.
To date, the Félix Cup Memorial Ball Hockey Tournament has raised $29,800 for the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation directed towards pediatric cancer research.
